I cannot believe this commercial. It is so bad that my friend saw it on television and called me at work to tell me about it. Obesity, particularly childhood obesity, is now a national epidemic, and this commercial is saying "it's fine in moderation". Well, yeah. But no one knows what that is anymore. I am just really bothered by this.
Ok, and here are their facts:
High Fructose Corn Quick Facts
The American Medical Association (AMA) recently concluded that "high fructose corn syrup does not appear to contribute to obesity more than other caloric sweeteners."
Research confirms that high fructose corn syrup is safe and no different from other common sweeteners like table sugar and honey. All three sweeteners are nutritionally the same.
High fructose corn syrup has the same number of calories as table sugar and is equal in sweetness. It contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted high fructose corn syrup "Generally Recognized as Safe" status for use in food, and reaffirmed that ruling in 1996 after thorough review.
High fructose corn syrup offers numerous benefits. It keeps food fresh, enhances fruit and spice flavors, retains moisture in bran cereals, helps keep breakfast and energy bars moist, maintains consistent flavors in beverages and keeps ingredients evenly dispersed in condiments.

But, all that being said, I am still not a fan of corn syrup. Do I eat it from time to time? Yes. Do I love it, not necessarily. That is my opinion. I accept that.
However, this commercial makes it seem like "eh - it's no big deal". Maybe it is the same caloric value as sugar, but should you really be cramming sugar down your kid's gullet all day long? Because yeah, maybe you give him a tiny glass of kool aid at a party, but what about the artificially flavored syrup on his artificially flavored waffles? What about the Sunny D he drinks with his breakfast? And what about the cereal bar (that is kept moist by corn syrup) that he has as a snack? And the soda with his happy meal at lunch? And the ketchup he puts on his french fries? And the steak sauce you put on his gigantic steak at dinner? I don't get it.
